Llandough Castle dates back to the 12th century. Since 2003, we have been lovingly (also frustratingly at times!) restoring both the castle and gardens. We are very lucky to live in such a beautiful place, and love to share the space with our visitors to enjoy.
For a long time, the gardens were considered 'lost'. We began work restoring them and have been for the past 10 years. By 2018 work was starting on the woodland. Despite being very hard work, one of my favourite rewards is the sight of all the snowdrops coming into bloom in early Spring. The gardens now include a potager, formal croquet lawn surrounded by large herbaceous beds, the natural pond and woodland garden with stumpery.
The Orangery (where we hold all our workshops) was built in 1844, which we also restored. its a wonderful place to create floral arrangements because you're surrounded by the gardens for inspiration. We offer a tour around the gardens during our workshops (weather and time of year dependent), and open the gardens with the National Garden Scheme.
